After a lot of dreaming, scheming, and hard work, you’ve finally gotten the design of your home exactly how you want it. Everything is in its place, and you want to keep it that way. However, we all know that a few bad habits, like leaving clothes lying around, neglecting dusting, and setting a hot mug on the coffee table without a coaster can cause small messes. And small messes add up to big messes.

Tolerating small messes isn’t something you want to make a habit out of. To prevent messes big and small here are some routine, bite-sized cleaning suggestions you can implement in your daily life.

1. Make Your Bed

The simple act of pulling the comforter to the pillows is often all you need to do to transform your bedroom from slept-in to fresh-start. Even if a few other things are out of place, a made bed can give the appearance of a clean room.
It’s laundry day!
2. Start Every Day with a Load of Laundry

This way your laundry doesn’t pile up where it doesn’t belong (which is often the bedroom). By operating one load, one day at time you will stay on top of dirty laundry, making the chore much less daunting and more manageable. A note to the water- and energy-conscious among you: if a day’s worth of laundry isn’t enough for a full load, invest in a hamper and space the loads out to every other day.

3. Get Rid of Things

Studies show that 57 percent of homeowners feel particularly stressed when their house is disorganized and cluttered. Decluttering and purging your home of unneeded extras can lead to a much happier and more fulfilling home experience.

4. Take Shoes Off at the Door

Shoes that have been worn outside are infamous for tracking in mud, dirt, and other particles that can get into your carpets and hardwood flooring. Leaving your shoes at the entrance banishes the filth to a single, easy-to-clean area.
5. Pick Up a Few Things Every Time You Leave a Room

To prevent things from building up in your living areas, return a few things to their rightful places every time you leave a room. This might include dishes, toys, or magazines.

6. Dry the Sink

If you make it a goal to keep your sink dry at all times, it will help you keep dishes from piling up. In addition, it’s always wise to thoroughly clean your sink after each use. According to studies, the average kitchen sink actually has more germs than a toilet seat.

7. Unload the Dishwasher at the Start of Every Day

Another great way for preventing dishes from building up in the sink is unloading the dishwasher before you eat breakfast. That way, you can put the dishes right in the dishwasher rather than leaving them in the sink.

8. Don’t Collect Junk Mail

Most households have a countertop or file holder that collects junk mail and other papers. It’s rarely cleaned out, and it just piles up. Eliminate this area from your home for a less cluttered environment.

9. Put Your Clothes Away

It’s not that much more difficult to hang your clothes up or place them in a basket than it is to drop them on the floor each night. Take just five extra seconds to do this chore, and your house will magically be cleaner.

10. Keep Handy Wipes Around

It’s easy to wipe down surfaces and eliminate germs when you have Lysol or Clorox wipes on hand. Have a few containers of these wipes in different parts of your home for easy access and use.

11. Dust and Vacuum Regularly

Don’t wait for the dirt and dust to show up before you attend to it. Take a proactive stance on this chore by dusting and vacuuming several times a week. This chore is easy to do if it’s kept up with, and it prevents your house from ever looking dirty
